Methodology

This report seeks to analyse the safety perception, attitudes and experiences of lone workers in the workforce.

In July 2025, we canvassed 1327 full-time workers who work without direct supervision or work without a colleague nearby for at least one hour during the working week. The survey invited respondents to share more information about certain experiences, and we have used these quotes anonymously throughout this report to add further insight.

Data for the United States is researched from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The BLS data draws primarily from two national programs — the Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII) and the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) — which capture both non-fatal intentional injuries (violence by another person) and fatal work injuries across all U.S. industry sectors. The most recent full set of data avaiable is for 2021/2022 with some figures for 2023.
