Technology that keeps people safe and an ARC that specialises in worker safety
Peoplesafe provides technology to protect people whilst working. This eBook is to guide best practices in setting up, managing, and using personal safety technology.
Personal safety products, and the features can be used with them, are the technology that connects workers to Peoplesafe's state of state-of-the-art Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) .
Using Peoplesafe allows workers to get the fastest possible response when needed, as Peoplesafe's Alarm Controllers' have immediate access to the key information needed to respond to any alarm:
This information, if provided correctly on a user profile, combined with extensive training, will allow the Alarm Controller to verify the alarm and escalate the alarm accordingly. Peoplesafe's Alarm Controllers have access to dedicated escalation contacts, a national security response service, 999 control centres, and if the incident is life-threatening, can use a special URN to bypass 999 for immediate dispatch of police officers to the incident. This reduces the time it takes to get vital support from your staff.
What do our Alarm Controllers recieve?
For most products, pressing and holding the SOS button for 3 seconds will activate an alarm. The app or device will then send the ARC an alarm notification containing live GPS and the user profile containing personal, escalation, and, risk details of the person raising the alarm. A short vibration will be felt when this occurs.
Next, live audio will be sent and a second vibration will be felt. It can take up to 30 seconds for an alarm to connect to the ARC depending on signal availability. Alarm Controllers pick up alarms in an average of 3 seconds. When the alarm is picked up, the Alarm Controller will monitor silently for a minimum of 10 seconds before taking any further action.
The ARC team will always prioritize getting an emergency response to an alarm over contacting any escalation contacts as the focus is on the workers safety above all else. The ARC will never close an alarm without having confirmation that emergency services are at the scene or confirming the welfare of the user who raised the alarm.
Personal safety products can also raise alarms in a few other ways.
All alarms are unique to manage, but here is a rough process outline, zoom to read more.
When setting up Peoplesafe it is important that you set up a good profile to tell the Alarm Controller who is raising the alarm and their general risks/routines to help them verify the alarm.
However, in the majority of cases, workers will encounter different risks throughout the working day. To help the worker provide additional information to Alarm Controllers on any activity they may complete that comes with increased risk, there are multiple features that can be used to do this.
Once these features have been chosen, it is important to provide a clear outline of when and where these features should be used as part of your staff's regular routines.
Manual Position
This is available on most devices and apps and should be used before entering any building to give an updated GPS position to a controller.
15 Minute Tracking
This is a paid for add on but will ensure that GPS is updated every 15 minutes to give the Alarm Controller a more accurate GPS position of an alarm.
Test Call
Only available on some devices, a test call gives a worker peace of mind that the microphone, speaker and connection to Peoplesafe profile are all working. This can be used anytime not only once a quarter like an SOS test.
Voice Memo
A voice memo is essentially a voice mail that can be left for the Alarm Controller. It is recommend to leave any risks and location information (GPS cannot show where in a building you are). This gives vital information to Alarm Controllers.
Timed Activity
Timed activities are similar to a voice memo as you record your risks and location details. But, this feature provides the added protection of a a timer that is held on the Peoplesafe server, so it is counting down even in areas of no signal. At the end of the timer, automated calls will check on the user and if unanswered, an alarm will be raised.
Welfare Check
This is a check you can add to app timed activities that will ask workers to confirm they are ok during an activity at set intervals. If they do not confirm 'yes' in 5 minutes, an automated call will be made and if unanswered or the check response is 'no', an alarm will be raised for them.
Check in/out
This feature tells a manager on our portal if the user has checked in or out of work.
