Using GPS Locations

Peoplesafe must have access to users' locations to be able to send help during an ongoing incident. People may not want to use a device or app if they think their Manager can watch their location live. Decide how you deal with this early on and include clear guidance in your policy. You can either:

Provide Access

If you choose to provide Managers with access to user's GPS positions, you must clearly state this in your company policy and communicate how this information will be used. We recommend that this is only used to help locate close-by employees to complete welfare checks during ongoing low-risk alarms.

If Managers can use location information to discipline staff members, you will likely meet resistance from employees in using Peoplesafe apps/devices.

Restrict Access

If you restrict access to location information, make sure this is clear in your company policy and any communication you send to people. Though this restricts access to locations on Nexus, Alarm Controllers may pass on the location of a live alarm to Escalation Contacts to give context and be able to work together to confirm the welfare of your people.

Restricting access will help people understand that the location information is only used for safety reasons, giving them peace of mind that their locations are not being watched by their Manager.
