CONCLUSION

Personal safety is a major concern for employees when they are working late, travelling for business, or on their commute. These incidents have a tangible impact on the wellbeing and productivity of employees, with many feeling discouraged from important work activities as a result.

The lack of support and inconsistent safety measures has resulted in many employees feeling unsafe and unsupported. This is particularly concerning for women in the sector who report higher levels of concern than any other group. By not addressing personal safety concerns, employers risk losing valuable talent and face unnecessary business costs.

But the solution is clear. We believe that every employee has the right to feel safe and secure going about their work with peace of mind. This is within reach, but we must come together to achieve it.

Whilst we can never prevent all negative situations, we can provide employees with the necessary resources to feel safe whenever, wherever. Creating a safe and supportive workplace is not only the right thing to do, but it also makes commercial sense.

Methodology

The full sample of n=1,004 workers was achieved via an online self-completed survey that took place in January 2023. Participants worked either full time or part time in UK professional services businesses with 50+ staff.
